Sunday 24th March - walk *** – The Grove circuit, Felixstowe –
Mainly cloudy and breezy.
After yesterdays full-on 25 mile session at a very breezy Levington I was
going to give today a miss especially with loads of wind coming next week
but in the end I could not resist a look and drove over to the marina for a
look. I arrived at 10.30 and with the tide high and the wind coming from
the WNW it did not look very inviting, the wind was cross off which made it
hard to judge how strong it was and there was a big swell running down the
middle of the river, it was gloomy too so after taking a few pics I decided
not to bother and head for home. I did my exercises and then packed a
picnic, I wanted to but a torx screw driver for my foil so after a quick
stop at Homebase we parked up at The Grove, a small wooded area in
Felixstowe just past two. The wind had eased down and it was not as cold as
we had expected:) Though Abbey Grove to our bench in the small green to
enjoy our lunch with the rooks being particularly noisy now that nest
building is in full swing! Well rested we continue on through the woods, we
are in between flowers at the moment so not much colour although the wild
garlic is looking promising for later. We then hear some farm machinery
working in a near-by field so detour right on a path we haven’t walked
before to see a huge machine harvesting sugar beet! Then back across the
football pitches to check out a new tarmac footpath leading from the
football changing room and yes the workman ship is shocking not helped by
the fact something heavy has driven over it breaking a lot of the timber
shuttering and cracking the tarmac in places! I cant see this lasting long,
probably cost a lot of money too! Then home to watch the Ladies Rugby team
down to 13 players at one point well beat Italy!
